Music in a Lifetime is dedicated to the role that being involved in music can play in a fulfilled and rewarding life. The resources in this website help young musicians explore community music-making at its finest, through the music and musicians of the Wellington Winds.

The Wellington Wind Symphony

Formed in 1981 and based in the Waterloo Region, the Wellington Wind Symphony is a concert band of Central Ontario’s finest musicians. Many are performing professionals or are music educators. We present varied programs of the best of familiar music and also new music that has appeal to a wide audience. The Winds concerts are known for their informal approach and enjoyable commentary. Visit the Wellington Wind Symphony’s website for more information, including concert programs and dates.

An Inquiry Approach

The inquiry approach puts students’ questions at the centre of learning. Students exploring this website are invited to develop questions, explore the resources, and formulate their own ideas. Teachers may use the curriculum connections we suggest to guide student inquiry. The inquiry approach motivates students to explore ideas more deeply.

This website is designed to be used independently by students, or within the context of curriculum-based inquiry learning in the music classroom. The For Teachers section of this website provides resources for teachers to make connections to the Ontario Curriculum, within an inquiry framework.

The Appassionato Project

This website has been developed as part of the Wellington Winds’ Appassionato project. The Appassionato DVD has been distributed to secondary schools in southwestern Ontario, and is also available for purchase. This website embeds Appassionato Project videos as well as additional material from the Wellington Wind Symphony YouTube channel.
